Meet
The Author

Meet Balin Strickler. Husband, dad, author, entrepreneur, runner, traveler, reader, apprentice to Jesus, and one who desires to encourage others to live into the abundant life they dream for themselves.  Through business success and failure, investment trial and error, reading, mentors, and many other experiences, Strickler has learned 20+ financial principles that have guided his journey to independence and ability to reframe the arc of his life story.

Strickler invested the first 20 years of his career in building a fire and was able to reframe his journey in his early 40’s.  Fire Builder is a summary of the principles he learned along the way and an introduction for YOU to start your journey on this path to the abundant life you desire to live.

Fire Builder is the outcome of Strickler’s calling to share the wisdom he discovered with the next generation.  May you find joy and passion in your labor early so that you might pursue the work you were destined for.  Work that brings you and your community truth, beauty and goodness.

What is Fire Builder?

Financial Independence – Investments that produce sufficient cash flow to support your lifestyle. This includes stocks, bonds, real estate, businesses, pensions. Anything that you own that actually produces money you can spend without depleting the thing you own.

Reframe Early – No longer required to work for money at any specific job.  Freedom reframe and pursue meaningful work that interests you and brings value to that which you care about.  This reframed work may keep you in your day job or totally transform your work day and schedule.

Fire Builder

"It has been written as if you and a person you want to learn from went out for coffee and you asked them, “Should I invest?”, or “When do I start worrying about a budget?”, or “What’s the deal with school debt for college or car debt for a vehicle?” Through a combination of experience, reading and speaking to mentors, author of Fire Builder, Balin Strickler, dives into the taboo topic of money, and shows you how easy it can be to live within your means."

“It’s a guide book, one that will instruct, teach, inform, clarify. It’s intended to help you achieve financial freedom. It’s for your journey. Take it with you!”

For all the dreamers and the planners: here are 20+ principals in Fire Builder, each one helps contribute to financial freedom!”

Here is a quick summary of what you’ll find in the guide book.

  • “Give When You Have $1”: Strickler dives into how being generous is a skill. Practicing small and consistent generous acts speaks into the act of starting small and starting early. You will also be doing some good and feeling good!
  • “Time = $$”: We live in a society where things are always trying to win our attention. Instant gratification! Fire Builder dives into how we can assess our REAL wage.
  • “Spend Less Than You Make”: Fire Builder teaches you how to properly use your budget to save. Get financially fat!
  • “Debt Can Be Your Coffin (or Your Tool)”: Strickler introduces the sticky and confusing term of compound interest and the different types of debt we can experience in life. Friend or Foe? Tool or Coffin?
  • “Want Less”: In a world of Amazon Prime, express shipping, and instant results, delayed gratification just doesn’t seem to be an option anymore…or maybe we just need to rename it- want less.
  • “Invest in What You Know”: Value is built around your knowledge. Don’t invest hard earned wealth on risky, unknown investments.  Take time to understand what you are building and what to build your wealth around!
  • “Set a Financial Finish Line”: We are all running but do you know what you are running towards? If you don’t have a finish line, how do you know when to stop?
